![]() ![]() The tricky part about the rollout of AV Foundation Frameworks is that the file format is still a QuickTime movie file (.mov).Īdobe announced application level support for some of the QuickTime CODECs (like Animation) back in May. A short list is supported for playback only (Photo-JPEG, MPEG2, DV-NTSC, DVCPro, and a handful of others). There's a very short list of CODECs that AV Foundation Frameworks fully supports: Apple ProRes, H264 and as of macOS High Sierra H265. Most players (including VLC Player, Handbrake and most any other player application out there) require QuickTime in order to play the wide range of formats and CODECs that were supported by QuickTime. ![]() That's also the reason why you'll never get green screen footage to looks as good as something like an op1a file from h.264 files.Apple deprecated QuickTime as a system driver for time based media back in 2013 in favor of AV Foundation Frameworks. H.264 is great as a final deliverable because it's a smaller file and the end image looks very good. ![]() 4:1:1 takes four pixels and compersses them down to 1, etc It's just something you'll need to deal with.ĭepending on the project I won't use ProRes422 as a file final as it's still taking 4 pixels and compressing them down to 2 pixels (hence 4:2:2). However, large files are just par for the course when saving master files. What's preventing you from using prores as a master file outside of filesize? I personally use op1a export setting for master files but it's a larger file. Which will then be compressed a third time once uploaded to something like youtube if applicable. The only advantage to exporting prores after already exporting an mp4 (I'm assuming the codec is h.264) is to prevent compressing your original twice (a very compressed lossy file).
